The original source vinyl collection of the yellow label

Deutsche Grammophon - THE ORIGINAL SOURCE © Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft

At the Emil Berliner Studios, directly from the original four- and eight-track tapes of the 1970s, remastered with one hundred percent pure analog mastering and pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl, complete with additional photos and recording documents – that’s how the Original Source Vinyl Collection from Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft (DGG) is delivered. These records, audiophile reissues in reference quality, provide a truly special listening experience, provided you have the right equipment.

If you love the warm, unspoiled sound of analog recordings, you can’t go past the DGG Original Source Vinyl series. What makes these records so unique is the entirely analog production process, completely without any digital steps.

With the return to an almost perfect analog sound, classical music becomes an audible experience – with more brilliance, only very minimal noise, and an immediate, layered dynamic.

Gone are the compromises in the bass range or in dynamics; the entire spectrum of the music, from the tiniest pianissimo to the most powerful fortissimo, is represented here. You can hear details that were hidden in the original stereo mixes of the 1970s: the music can be experienced with incredible spatial depth and clarity.

The only downside is the fact that many of these new pressings are limited due to the elaborate production and are already unavailable shortly after release.

SIMPLY CLASSIC has listened to a few of these excellently edited vinyls with enjoyment, also because they bring up many lovely memories of youth related to classical music records, and will report on valuable new releases from time to time.
